My brother handed off a couple batteries and a solar panel which can be used to recharge one... slowly, over the course of a day, but it's a backup. The idea is they'll give a couple hours of spot usage, e.g. for laptop, during an extended outage. I have ice chilling in the freezers too, to deploy to the fridges in such a case.
If I'd thought to get some dry ice, I might have spared myself tossing a fair amount of food, but oh well. I was just plain astonished that the power outage even lasted that long.
