Tufty Fashion: Blazers, Sport Jackets, and Bow Ties

As part of what has become our weekly or bi-weekly anime outings, I met up with [livejournal.com profile] dracosphynx for lunch at a nearby Irish pub and then we went crawling men's fashion stores for a suitable jacket for me to wear at a fancy dinner, should I actually manage to get a date. This is, I admit, a very large if, but if it happens, I would like to be better prepared than with my boring interview/wedding/funeral suit.

There was also watching the last two discs of Yamato and enjoying a surprisingly tasty for drive-in Hawaiian barbecue 'mini loco moco', but let's get to what you want to see, the incriminating fashion photos!

First we hit up Brooks Brothers. They didn't actually have much of a selection in jacket styles, and the large sport jackets I saw would never have fit me. Western suits of that type tend to be geared for larger men, I'm not sure why. Don't smaller men have a right to look good too?

This is a selfie of me in a blazer at Brooks Brothers, a bit blurry, but I think it conveys the gist of it. I wasn't sold on this one, it looked too much like the suit I already have.

Evidently the difference between blazers and suits is mainly in the buttons it has. I was surprised. Also I remain confused on the exact difference. Perhaps I will understand this someday, but I'm fine with not knowing.

This is a collection of pictures that I hope will entertain you! There was an interestingly cut jacket in the front of the store, which I took a sudden yen to try on as [livejournal.com profile] dracosphynx was peering in curiously. It turned out to be an overcoat, meant to be worn over a normal suit or jacket. The unctuous proprietor, Franco (I am not sure if he was *the* Uomo of the store name) helped me try it on. The top two pictures are of the overcoat, closed up and opened to show my jacket and red shirt beneath.

Following this, I tried on a red sport jacket and a navy blue sport jacket. They look pretty good! But we settled on a lighter blue-gray sport jacket as more attention-getting, which you'll see at the lower right.

They seem to have a thing for bowties here. The cute Asian saleslady helping me try on clothes persuaded me (after some puppy eyes) to try one on, so she tied it on... Here it is pictured at lower left on my red shirt, and then with the jacket. I begged off, though; I really don't think it's "my look", whatever the fashionistas might think this year.

The suit, orange shirts (!), and leather belt altogether ran up... more than my inner MiserCat really wants to think about. but it will be custom-fit, so hopefully more flattering for potential date occasions. I will have to pack it along if I do go on a cruise with my brothers next year, for the inevitable dance/mixers!
