Food! Lazy Dog's French Toast, Homemade Char Siu Chow Mein

What are we looking at here? That's french toast made with some pretty thick bread, slathered with generous amounts of orange marmalade and a cream cheese flavored with vanilla.

[livejournal.com profile] dracosphynx had been singing the praise of this french toast for a while so I was curious. It was actually pretty good, but I wished I'd asked for a side order of bacon or sausage to go with the thing. As it was, I went home and nuked a couple pieces of bacon, since I wanted to clean them out of the freezer anyway. :)

Maybe you remember that I finally found a char siu recipe that I liked. Well, I had a few pieces of pork in the freezer, and had a yen to try making chow mein with Trader Joe's "papardelle" egg noodles.

I gotta say, I don't think the chow mein part works all that well. I have no idea how to separate the noodles -- once I take it out of the boiling water, cool it down and then place it into the wok, it just tends to stick together. The sauce was terrific though-- it was the leftover marinade from making the char siu, thickened with a little corn starch. The veggies are just fine, and the char siu is delicious.

So, moderately successful cooking experiment but one there's no point in repeating.
