Random Food

This is the 'miscellany' part of my catch-up. :) Next up, the Asian Art Museum!

I seem to have left this particular picture out of my July 4th entry. Whoops! This is the beef curry at Ramen Izakaya. It was pretty good, not too spicy. I'd originally gone out looking for a Chinese restaurant serving a General Tso's lunch special but it turns out none of the restaurants actually serve lunch specials on *holidays*, despite it being a nominal weekday.

This is nominally homemade food, but it's two of Trader Joe's ready-made heat-and-serve Asian food selections: mango chili chicken, and crispy beef. They weren't bad but they fall short of restaurant greatness. I cooked up some baby bok choy to add nutritional value.

This is steamed pork with fermented tofu, you might recall it from my previous post. What's different and noteworthy here is that I tried searing some zucchini with garlic and salt. I think the zucchini came out pretty well, but not enough to be worth the time and trouble of individually flipping each piece when I could just steam it and pay a lot less attention to the cooking.

If I were doing this for a party or potluck, I'd sear the zucchini with parmesan cheese, I think.

A co-worker brought cookies home from China, so I tried one! It turned out to be filled with a red bean paste. Moon cakes, I think these things are called. Edible but not great.
