Mountain View Arts & Wine Fair 2016

"So what's the difference?"
"Not a lot, this one's toward the end of the summer, but otherwise pretty much the same thing. A long stretch of booths allll the way from Central to El Camino Real."

The previous year that Mountain View has tried doing a 'Thursday Night Live' in the summer, I wasn't able to make it-- their dates fell inconveniently on raid nights. This time raiding wrapped up more or less in time for me to be able to make the last Thursday Night Live. dracosphynx has been jonesing for a Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki ever since his trip to Japan. Unfortunately there aren't a lot of options for something so... specific. However, he did hear about this one restaurant nearby that serves it.( Cut for images! )

2016 Mountain View Parade -- Or Not
Apr. 23rd, 2016 03:28 pmIn my ongoing campaign to actually get out of the house every now and then, I noted that there was a parade going on in Mountain View. The original time was 12 noon, but they had apparently decided to move it up to 10 AM-1 PM. I figured there'd still be some part of the parade going on around 11-ish when I made it over there.
Well... Nope! Apparently the parade is really small or something.
However, there was still the 'after-parade festivities' to check out in Pioneer Memorial Park.

Every year around this time, Mountain View has a pretty big arts & wine festival! I stumbled onto it last year by accident but I saw some advance notice of it this year. So I went, of course.

Food Out Of The House: Duck Confit Bao
Mar. 7th, 2015 04:10 pmdracosphynx should be pleased: not only did I go for a walk outside the house, I stopped at a restaurant I hadn't been to before and sampled something there!The name of the restaurant was Buffalo : Beers / Burgers / Baos.
I paused. "Wait, one of these things does not normally go with the others." Baos being those Chinese steamed buns filled with char siu, generally, though I've sampled some variants on the theme. I peeked inside. They seemed relatively un-busy. The server at the back inquired, "Would you like to be seated, sir?"
"I saw from the outside that you serve baos."
"We do indeed." He proffered a menu.

While browsing around for things happening in town, I noticed a Mountain View Oktoberfest within walking distance. It seemed likely to be a smallish sort of thing so I didn't thinkdracosphynx would be interested, but I figured I'd better get out of the house.

Out for a Walk
Sep. 7th, 2014 05:59 pmI've made the walk to Castro Street, a shopping district about six blocks away, but the last time I went, there weren't sidewalks so that left me walking along the side of the road. This seemed like a bad idea so I decided not to do that again for a while.
The other day, while my brother and I were driving along Central Expressway, he pointed out that there was construction being done on sidewalks at Shoreline. Soon I would be able to make the walk completely on sidewalks and with a much better degree of safety!
I've now made the sidewalks trip twice, so here are some pictures.
