As you may recall from my previous experiment, I was getting closer to making a good pot pie.

I think I've got the whole wheat crust nailed down! I use something like this recipe except substituting whole wheat pastry flour for the all-purpose white flour. I'm also using the food processor to blend the pie crust. Yay for kitchen automation!

There were a couple problems with the first attempt... See if you can spot them!

Item one. Not enough pie dough for the crust! It turns out the recipe is intended to make one pie crust... The bottom half. I was expecting it to make enough for top and bottom. Next time I do a full-scale pie with both top and bottom, I'll need to make sure I double the recipe quantities.

Item two. Not enough gravy! This left the filling a bit less than totally satisfying. I thought it was fine, but I'm trying more gravy in this next version...

Individual-serving pot pies! I discovered a cache of small aluminum foil pie pans, and used them for the remaining half of the filling. These only have the top crust, I didn't want to mess with making the bottom crust as well-- given how small the pie pans are, that would have resulted in a much higher crust-to-filling ratio. I've frozen two of these and baked the third, as seen above.

Otherwise though, I think the pie crust is pretty acceptable, and the filling came out pretty decently too.

Edit to add: Nom nom nom! Okay, the gravy was indeed needed, but the individual pot pies came out great!
