I have completed a life changing decision today-- I'm retiring early.

This isn't an irrevocable decision. If the economy tanks and I need to go back to work, I'll do that. But for the time being, I have enough in savings that I felt safe in closing out my current chapter at work. My manager was very understanding and we worked out a last day-- today-- that gave me plenty of time to wrap things up.

This year the company holiday party was to be held at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View... Which is almost literally 5 minutes away from my house, so I really had no excuse not to go. So off we go...

Brace for impact... I'm finally getting around to unloading my camera pictures since I fell off the blogging boat mid-2018!

First up, my company had a dumplings-making workshop as a team-building/culture sort of thing. We didn't actually make the dumpling skins, which I had kind of hoped we would, just the filling, according to the recipes they gave. Some select pictures...

A thing that the Google catering team does is to have "pop-up" community events at various campuses. These typically feature a large number of "social" venues like tents and sofas, a stage and speakers for live performances, and of course... food!

My team recently moved from Mountain View to Sunnyvale. As if to bid us farewell, they had a pop-up at Crittenden!

It's been over a month so... yeah. Time to do another round of uploading photographs! Here we have the Googleween 2016 pics. This year the theme was games! Both video games and board games.

The last event of the summer that I noted was this 'pop-up' -- basically a lot of chairs and "socially friendly" settings appeared on the grass in the middle of the campus, and there were tables serving up various snacks. Not a huge event, but it was nice. Hope they do this sort of thing more often!

[livejournal.com profile] dracosphynx has been jonesing for a Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki ever since his trip to Japan. Unfortunately there aren't a lot of options for something so... specific. However, he did hear about this one restaurant nearby that serves it.

This year the Google Kitsmas party was held at the USS Hornet museum up in Alameda. I dithered about going, nearly didn't-- I missed the 'RSVP' post, but wrote the party planners and was assured I should just pick up a wristband.

Overall it was a pretty good experience! The pictures, let me show you them.

No costume this time, sadly! And there was a raid in the evening so I didn't spend too long there; I basically got there, wandered around taking pictures and scarfing snacks, and then bailed. Maybe next year I'll arrange things more conveniently. By, say, not having a raid on the same day as the Halloween thing. Silly me. -_-

One off-site, one on-site...

My work group took us out to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk, which is actually an annual sort of thing. It wasn't a bad little day trip, but I found the food a bit disappointing.
