We began in San Francisco. While we had taken BART up to the Cherry Blossom Festival the previous outing, this time with the notion that we might need to stow many, many packages full of clothes. We emerged from the Union Square garage practically into Macy's, where we dithered between the Cheesecake Factory and... The Burger Bar. Glad we picked the latter, the milkshake made a big impression on [livejournal.com profile] dracosphynx!

The burgers were also pretty tasty; we had a 'sliders' assortment, though I couldn't tell you the difference between angus beef, grass-fed beef, and buffalo meat. The toppings were what made the burgers work so well!

Thus fortified, we met Beth in front of the store and walked in to the nearby tea/soda bar where she discussed what we wanted to achieve with our fashion makeover. I showed her my sketches; [livejournal.com profile] dracosphynx explained his predilection for wearing all black.

Our first trip of the day was down the street to a hair salon tucked up on the 16th floor. Very well hidden! Beth explained what she wanted in hair styles for us, and then left to go pick out clothes for us and reserve a dressing room in the Macy's for Men store, while Alex took over.

Gone is the long hair!

I could not help but think of Fluttershy going to see Rarity for a makeover through the process, and being dunked into hot water in order for her mane to be cut. Sigh! I blame [livejournal.com profile] dracosphynx. They started off by tinting his hair first with a mustard-yellow mixture which would wind up looking more natural black with brown highlights, then Alex had me lean back in one of those chairs with a sink behind it for shampooing my hair. This was followed by a rather drastic haircut in my case and less cutting, but trimming, for Dracosphynx.

Kim looks like a Nemian lion with his hair done up just so!

Once Beth got back, she suggested some final touch-ups on our hairdos, and we paid Alex. My hairstyle actually requires a bit of mousse and styling gel in order to give it the proper volume, so I picked up a bottle of the stuff. I was assured that it would be texture-less, rather than looking like "what, Tufty, you buying hair oil by the gallons these days?"

After this, we walked back to Macy's for Men, where we were taken up to the dressing room that Beth had reserved and presented with a selection of clothes to try on that Beth thought would suit us.

Cue much flailing. Several times, [livejournal.com profile] dracosphynx painedly said, "Fluffyshy, close the door!" as I forgot about him being in there-- I'm not exactly used to sharing a dressing room!

Beth kept looking over her watch as we picked out our outfits; turns out we needed to meet a photographer for the photoshoot part of the day. As a result, I wound up compromising a bit and just going with what looked the best rather than sticking it out in an attempt to find the 'perfect' denim jacket etc. From past experience, it's nigh impossible to find fashionable clothes with decent-sized pockets these days! People who wear fashion have other people to carry things for them.

Our next stage of shopping was Barney's, which was a surprisingly high-priced place with high-end clothes. I turned down the fancy jacket out of sticker-shock, but picked up some boots that looked good, though I would eventually decide to return them due to being too small and feet-hurtsome. (I still need to do the return! This weekend or next, most likely.) [livejournal.com profile] dracosphynx picked up a jacket that was of a style he'd been looking for, for a while.

And finally we met up with the photographer and his wife/assistant, and took some pictures!

And finally, here's us with our "Rarity" Beth:

Once we were done with the photoshoot, we paid up and bid farewell to all concerned. I teased Beth after we hugged, "The makeover must be working, pretty ladies are hugging me already!"
