tuftears: Lynx in Chef's Hat (Cooking)
I'll explain a bit more about why I decided to make sausage rolls next post, but for this one, let's just roll with "it seemed like a good idea at the time". :)

After doing some research, I thought Delia's Sausage Rolls recipe would be the most 'impressive' (in terms of actual cooking ability needed) sausage rolls recipe to make for a planned brunch, so I started out by buying some Italian sausage filling, the sort that comes in one of those 'just cut me open' bags in the supermarket, and some fancy European butter.

It seemed to be coming along pretty promisingly... )

This isn't so much about cooking as it is the whole experience of hosting a brunch... and there's a bit of Fluffyshy-ing involved as well.

Some weeks ago, Mrs. Chong, a realtor friend of my mom, had hosted a brunch to introduce me to Mary, the daughter of a good friend of hers. Wanting to create a second opportunity to meet her again, I offered to host a return brunch on the following week.

That one got postponed, and the sausage rolls went pift, so I wound up making a new set of sausage rolls and quiche for the following weekend! I also picked up fresh strawberries, char siu baos (barbecue pork steamed buns) and potstickers at the Farmer's Market. This, I anticipated, would be quite enough food for the six of us.

Little did I know... )

In the aftermath of the brunch, I had a large amount of leftovers to work through and process in some way. Those who know me well know that I am a misercat and loathe to throw out perfectly good food. So...

* Soy sauce chicken wings and legs: I cut these up and made them into fried rice along with some of the tofu-sausage-pickled-veggies salad. Tasted great!
* Corn muffins: I made turkey-and-beef chili. These went well together, but I can't really taste the beefiness, so I will probably not bother with ground beef in the future.
* Sausage rolls: still pending in the freezer, but they'll be next on the list of things to prep and serve for a lunch with my mom and her caretaker.

And... Three baggies with a double handful each of frozen fresh strawberries. What was I going to do with these?

I looked around for strawberry recipes... )
