Status Report for June, 2025

I paid estimated taxes before June 15, the quarterly tax deadline for income in the second quarter of the year. (at least I'm pretty sure that is it) I am a dutiful taxpayer!
HVAC Gurus installed an air purifier in the central heat pump I have in the house. I vaguely suspect this of being some hand-wavey "might not really do anything but can't hurt" system but whatever, it's done, and I shall be more cautious next time about going 'yeah, go ahead' after they recommend various service options.
I deal with a new crashing bug found in FurryMUCK's code! Turns out this is code that persists to this day in the later Fuzzball MUCKs. Points helped me figure out the correct fix, and we patched FurryMUCK so we're good now.
I beat Blue Prince! I reached room 46, at least, around day 29 (22 hours played). I am continuing to poke at the game, solving more advanced puzzles, but I suspect my patience will run out soon. In anticipation of that, I picked up a couple games in the Steam summer sale, Star Wars Outlaws (triple-A scoundrels-in-Star Wars game), Magical Delicacy (non-combat Metroidvania cozy-cooking thing), and Old Skies (time travel point-and-click game from Wadjet Eye games). I also need to finish playing Star Trek Resurgence.
Coming up next is July... July 4th will be a hamburger day, of course. July 18th will be my Purrsday, when I will order a French dinner (generally duck breast on a bed of wild rice, with tiramisu for dessert). Nothing too crazy planned, since the world is crazier than I want to think about, so... Home is best place!
A mild digression re: Star Trek Resurgence. I like the focus on 'events in the days of the crew', you get two viewpoint characters, a Lower Decks type and a First Officer, but it's also a bit off-putting in that you really have very little agency, you're only ever reacting to things, you don't get to overall choose the actions you're taking. If I ever wrote a Star Trek game, I'd make it more like a rogue-like mission simulator, choosing how you want to solve problems. It's all about player agency!
I have written 31,306 words in the Scofflaw Villainess novel. It's kind of harder than I expected to try and keep things humorous, I have to keep thinking of ways to lighten the mood or add in comedy here and there, and it can't be constantly the same kind either. Plus when I'm writing dramatic action sequences, I have to be careful I'm not killing the tension by doing so. But I think it was the right call overall to switch to a more comedic novel for this year's writing.
I have continued to run Starforged on Caturdays! We are at 23 logs so far and roughly 150k words, but obviously that wordage is shared between myself and the two players. At some point I should put up a quick index page so people can read the RPG logs.
Coming up next is July, wherein I shall indulge in such exciting pursuits as... cooking myself a bacon cheeseburger with tater tots for July 4th, and ordering a French dinner for my birthday with duck breast on a bed of wild rice, and tiramisu for dessert. Ah, decadence!
(yes, I would go out, but the world is too crazy for me to deal with. Home remains best place!)
