Status Report for January, 2026
Feb. 1st, 2026 01:31 pmWhew, it's been a month into the mew year already, time sure flies! Into the teeth of all the terrible things happening (in general, not in specific) I managed to get my first book out, and I have been pleased by the handful of reviews I've garnered so far--it is actually readable. Excellent!
So, writing... I wrote a little over 10k words on 'Alien Tastes: Taste of Piracy', a short story to try and gauge how interested people will be in the longer form stories I have in mind for Alien Tastes...
Then I knocked off halfway through January to start working on the sequel to Timecrossed Engineer: Back to School, which will be named Timecrossed Engineer: Shakedown Cruise. At this point I have a basic outline, but now I'm working on the detailed outline. I'm eager to write this, I feel like I have done some clever and fun things in the outline and that it makes sense which is tricky when we're talking about time travel.
Will it actually make sense? That'll be for readers to find out, probably a year from now.
Art-wise, I started working on the cover for the Rose's Crime Spree in Nova Paree, a novel set in a different universe from the Timecrossed Engineer and Alien Tastes, featuring a galaxy-famous gem thief on a search for her parents. Not that she actually wants to find them, but it's important for her family.
I embarked on a campaign to try and clean up my house, even a little at a time. So far it looks like a little is indeed all I'm doing at a time, but I did turn up some old letters that one of my aunts collected as a memory of my dear departed mother. I disposed of the rest of the old papers as no longer relevant, I'm trying very hard not to be the hoarder type like my mom was.
I ran Starforged for Jared and Boingdragon. They are making pretty good progress!
I finished Rogue Trader, this RPG consumed 107 hours of my time. Pretty good value for money, I'd say! I'm currently playing through the Invincible, but hindered slightly by that the 3D rendering for the game is such that I get nauseous when playing for an hour or so. A pity that; the story is pretty decent, if (it being based on an old Stanislaw Lem book) rather 'retro' in feel.
What's next? Probably edits on the Rose's Crime Spree, the cover for the same, and working on the outline/breaking ground on the Timecrossed Engineer sequel, Shakedown Cruise.
