Reported by tor.com that Anne McCaffrey has passed away.

I'll always remember her for the Dragonsong, Dragonsinger, and Dragondrums trilogy. I love the academy milieu in SF&F, where young people step out of their ordinary lives into a setting where they can truly shine for the first time, but they must earn their success. I didn't care so much about the dragonriders, but these-- well, these books sang to me.

Awwww. ;_;

I must've read the Dragonsong trilogy, especially the first two, over a dozen times when I was growing up. I adored those books. I loved the Dragonriders too, but not as much.

NO! She was my childhood hero!

She's not really dead...

...she's somewhere in /between/.

*quiet nod* She'll be missed. And the stories will live on.

I did read plenty of her stories. They were good. for all the goofiness of the world of Pern, sometimes, it was a solid _world_.

One of the great ones.

Very sad. I just loved her work when I was growing up. Especially that trilogy.
