Reported by tor.com that Anne McCaffrey has passed away.
I'll always remember her for the Dragonsong, Dragonsinger, and Dragondrums trilogy. I love the academy milieu in SF&F, where young people step out of their ordinary lives into a setting where they can truly shine for the first time, but they must earn their success. I didn't care so much about the dragonriders, but these-- well, these books sang to me.

Date: 2011-11-23 12:35 am (UTC)I must've read the Dragonsong trilogy, especially the first two, over a dozen times when I was growing up. I adored those books. I loved the Dragonriders too, but not as much.
