Fruit of the Farmer's Market
Mar. 10th, 2013 11:09 amNot actually cooking, but close enough! There's a farmer's market down a few blocks every Sunday, but I've never been there... At least until today. Turns out my older brother goes there every week, and he invited me to go along with him this time.
Lots of fruit and veggies, and many of them offered samples. I tried a bit of a Pink Lady apple; very sweet and tasty! There were also a plethora of bakeries, and even a Chinese dim sum maker. Their dim sum are frozen uncooked so you can just take them out of the freezer and steam them whenever you wish.
Unfortunately, I had in mind cooking some sweet-and-sour chicken so I was a bit constrained in what veggies to get-- I figured zucchinis would go well, but they're evidently out of season! Asparagus are very, very in season though. Almost everyone had some.

There were a variety of tempting meat pie-like dishes, but in the end, I settled on these! They were wrapped in plastic for freshness keeping, and could be eaten as-is, but I opted to heat them in the oven at 450 degrees for 5 minutes. Yum! Beef and onion filling. Not particularly healthy, but a tasty memory.
