I was brave and tried something very close to sushi! I blame
dracosphynx.
Alas, it was not quite the religious experience that he was hoping for me to have. He threatened to revoke my cat card, but fortunately I'm covered under 'cats are finicky eaters.'

This is Tuna Tataki, from PF Chang's. It's been seared around the edge, so it's just very barely cooked. My verdict? It wasn't bad but tasted kind of like salmon. I wound up dipping some in my hot'n'sour soup to give it flavor.
Dracosphynx was scandalized. I'm not particularly bothered, myself. Everyone has their own tastes in food.

The sesame chicken was delightful though, the batter was super-thin and gave it just a bit of crunch so it didn't read as particularly unhealthy, and was quite flavorful and tender.
We had gone down to the Stanford shopping center, since I wanted to pick up a ginger grater and some art supplies. We got the ginger grater without any issues, but I did wind up changing my mind and exchanging the microplane grater I got for a ceramic grater, based on a video
dracosphynx showed me. We also picked up some fresh ginger afterwards. I need to figure out how to use this stuff next.
We hit up some movies at my place afterward: the Japanese CGI Space Pirate Captain Harlock, which was pretty good but simultaneously a bit off the wall and predictable, and Iron Monkey, one of the best kung fu movies of all time. I think I'd actually seen this one before, but it was still well worth rewatching!
