I posted this to my WoW community forums, but I thought [livejournal.com profile] okojosan might like to read this as well. :)

Look! Faerie dragons! Seems like some proc, which one I don't know yet, cause faerie dragons to show up in a fight and help you by doing additional damage.

I consulted mainly the Icy Veins guide.

Gear

*Most* of your feral gear (the leather pieces) are just fine. However, you will need to replace these pieces for balance:

* Necklace
* Cloak
* Weapon
* Rings
* Trinkets

Remember that you can equip 3 crafted items. You can buy the intellect spellcaster ring from that guy in Zangarmarsh, next to Khadgar's mage tower, that will take care of one ring. I picked up a cloak from Kazzak (who now drops ilevel 720 loot), then bought a Baleful Choker, Trinket, and Armament from those birds in Tanaan Jungle and empowered them to 695, since I just wanted a ballpark figure.

Talents

Tier 1: Starlord. Decent for sustained DPS.
Tier 2: Displacer Beast, as a 'get the heck away' move. You'll need to switch back to moonkin when you've repositioned.
Tier 3: Pick either Restoration Affinity if you want to be able to cast emergency heals, or Guardian Affinity if you want the damage reduction passive.
Tier 4: Typhoon, as a knockback move.
Tier 5: Stellar Flare. This is a longer-lasting DoT, better for raid damage.
Tier 6: Blessing of the Ancients. You can switch this between two blessings but I left this on 'Blessing of Elune' which increases the astral power generated by Solar Wrath and Lunar Strike by 40%.
Tier 7: Nature's Balance. Solar Wrath extends duration of Sunfire by 3.8 secs, Lunar Strike extends duration of Moonfire by 5.7 secs.

Action Bars

Your mileage may vary. I placed DoTs on the upper left action bar (named confusingly enough by Blizzard, "BottomLeft ActionBar" in the key binds). These are mapped to, for me, shift-1 (BottomLeft ActionBar key 1), shift-2, etc.

BottomLeft ActionBar: 1=Moonfire, 2=Sunfire, 3=Stellar Flare, 4=Celestial Alignment, 6=Typhoon, 9=Innervate
Regular ActionBar: 1=Solar Wrath, 2=Starsurge, 3=Lunar Strike, 4=Starfall, 8=Solar Beam, 9=Prowl, 11 (-) = Displacer Beast, 12 (=) = Dash

Rotation

When opening up, you can get slightly more bang for buck with Lunar Strike, before your target has aggroed. After that:

1. Keep Moonfire, Sunfire, and Stellar Flare up. Having WeakAuras to track their presence on your enemy will work. For you ferals, if you already have WeakAuras to track Moonfire, Rake, and Rip, well, one's already being tracked and you can just map Rake to Sunfire and Rip to Stellar Flare. Just add a new spell name in the blank field right under the current one.

2. For single target, spam Solar Wrath; when you get to 40 Arcane Power, cast Starsurge (note it's an instant!) then Lunar Strike and then go back to Solar Wrath.

3. For multiple targets, spam Lunar Strike; when you get to 60 Arcane Power, cast Starfall (note it's a ground-target spell!) then Solar Wrath and then go back to Lunar Strike.

3a. As DoTs are falling off (in their last 25%), be sure to refresh them. Solar Wrath will push down the cooldown for Sunfire, so you won't have to refresh that one nearly as often as Moonfire.

4. Pop cooldowns (Celestial Alignment in this case) whenever you need more damage for a burn phase, or on cooldown if you only need sustained DPS. Make sure to cast it *after* your DoTs are up and you are in the 'spam a cast time spell' phase.

I did pretty reasonable damage... Actually, surprisingly I did pretty much about the same damage as I do for cat. ^_^;;

The keybindings are named after their original placement on the screen, things have moved around quite a bit since ^-^

One of the problems I always had with rotations was overkill... Too many DoTs and you've wasted your mana on a target that's going to die, but you do need it dead now instead of later?

That's the nature of DoT classes, unfortunately. There are different talents if you're trying to optimize for killing trash or leveling, what I outlined is an 'easy to learn' raid DPS build, for dedicated feral druids that I need to switch to ranged for some boss fights. :)

Is it possible to not be a moonkin? :D It used to be with glyphs but now that they've removed glyphs...

Sorry, I don't think so. Instead, if you're balance spec, you always get this weird ghostly/star-fall-y effect on you. I suspect they want people to enjoy the new artifact-related forms though.

I'd honestly rather level my mage or use my hunter than play balance. :/ The mage is 20 so he's probably a lost cause, but the hunter is 100, at least.

At the moment I don't have time to learn a new spec before Friday. I haven't even logged Nadizel on yet to deal with her spec, and probably won't have it done before raid on Friday. I'll be gone all day tomorrow and most of Friday, driving back from Seattle.

I've just been too tired to deal with class changes. -_-

Well, Briar seems more open to it so maybe he'll spare you from having to deal with it. :)

Good luck with move stuff!
