ConJose 2018
Dec. 29th, 2019 04:42 pmFinally, pictures from ConJose, the WorldCon held in San Jose! I'd been meaning to post these for a while but fell ill for a bit, then never got around to it, as the backlog grew bigger and bigger. Aiee.
We started the day off getting there early so as to minimize problems with parking, so my notes assure me, with a "What If This Goes On" panel with Kaja Foglio and Harry Turtledove, and maybe a few other panelists. Then it was off to Johnny Rocket for lunch...

A cheesesteak sandwich with an accompanying salad! Tasty.

This gentleman was standing about in front of the art show so I happily got a picture. Reminds me of Terry Pratchett.
I made sure at the time to jot down the artists and titles of pieces that were interesting, so...
Richard Hescox - The Cloud Throne
Sarah Clemens - Tree of Bliss, and Snow and Cinder"
Stu Shepherd - The Romance Garden
April Lee - Constellation
Krista Daniel Dodson - metal cat - unfortunately I can't find a link.
Andy vanOverberghe - the Rocs of Andion
Teal Newcomb - Two of Pentacles
Jeff Sturgeon - Destiny
Ronnie Hansen - Monsterhedz
Julie Dillon - Naiad, and Southern Light
David Cartopressa (?) - Death Kilting (?)
Bob Keuk - Misty Morning
John Hartung (?) - Bridge of Sighs
Frank Frazetta - the Countess (warning - nekkid lady)
Vadim Voitekhovitch - Old Bridge
Dracosphynx singled out:
Le Moyer - Faberge Deluxe
Natalia Metzger - Smiladon Cat
Other interesting things in the art show: a concept art display from Tomorrowland, and an art collection of Sandy Cohen's. There was a charity auction in the same room as well, with books, collectible Star Trek memorabilia, and a plush Cerberus, among other things.
Pictures not taken of the YA exhibition and the slide rule booth, unfortunately, but here are some exhibitions I did get.

This purports to be a Kryptonian control console-- not an original movie prop, but created for a fan wedding, referencing the Fortress of Solitude.

An exhibit dedicated to Frank Hayes's songs, the most famous of which was evidently, "Never Set The Cat On Fire." Sage advice, IMO!

An exhibit of fantastic masquerade costumes! This one was "Midsummer Night's Dream."

A Priest of Cthulhu, evidently.

This set of dresses was called the Trumps of Amber, presumably after the Zelazny Amber books.

This lady reminded me of C. E. Murphy! Definitely rocking her outfit.

I suspect this lady is Elizabeth Klien-Lebbink, based on my notes.

A costume based on the X-Men Dark Phoenix.

I don't *think* this was a costume so much as a display. It's a skeleton in a suit, and the plaque explained that it was based on the Dr. Who monsters "Vashta Nerada", space piranha that, well, evidently nommed this poor explorer right down to the bones.

This slightly out of focus shot is the lone thing I have from the dealer's room. A bunch of parasols and other nice costume accessories. I also picked up a book from David Gerrold, who I was glad to see is still kicking around. My favorite book of his remains Chess with the Dragon.

I nommed this Nebula Oblongata doughnut to keep my energy up for the last bit... A movie, "Brush with the Future" featuring Project Eagle, and an architecture panel.
Good times.

*appreciates the quantity of cats in the linked pictures of art*
