Status Report for July, 2025
Aug. 1st, 2025 01:54 pmWell, July has been a month! Let's see...
Paid my DMV vehicle registration fee.
Wrote 37422 words on the Scofflaw Villainess story.
Wrote and sent in a short 250-word story for a Michael Whelan contest: details here ... I got nervous when the *notes* for the story ran 239 words, not gonna lie.
Celebrated the 4th with a delicious bacon cheeseburger with tater tots for lunch. Had a realization I'd rather have onion rings... But sadly it seems as if Trader Joe's has discontinued its excellent beer-battered onion rings, so I'll have to think of something for the Labor Day side.
Celebrated my birthday with the customary French duck breast dinner and tiramisu dessert. Then my aunts came over the following Caturday and we had Japanese curry noodles (well, they had beef yakiniku udon)... They quite enjoyed it. Having company for just a couple hours wiped me out for the next few days though. o.o Introvert!
Got my hearing aid tubes replaced. They'd been slipping out on a regular basis, often multiple times in a day. The new ones are fine. Though the hearing aid doctor did say that they're supposed to be replaced every six months... That's news to mew.
Played through Old Skies--an excellent Wadjet Eyes point-and-click adventure game featuring time travel in various ways. And Penny Larceny, a pretty solid visual novel about supervillains. I've started on Star Wars Outlaws, which is impressively immersive, there's just the unfortunate detail that it tends to make me nauseous if I play it a little too long, or there's a lot of fast-paced action going on. Fortunately I can sneak around a lot, so I do that.
Ran Starforged for Jared and Boingdragon. We've been at this for half a year now. Whew! My players have now been involved in recovering a human ambassador and ending a pirate threat, and are embarking on finding a cure for an alien plague making inroads among the human refugee fleet. (humans have fled to an alien galaxy to survive a deadly threat to the original galaxy)
In sad news, Tugrik, a friend of mine, passed away. Watts Martin wrote a short note on the subject.
This does cause certain complications because he was the DNS provider for some domains I own, so I'm going to have to figure out who's taking over that role.
August, I need to start looking at health care insurance to replace COBRA which I've been on for the last 18-ish months. "Whee," says Tufty.
I am approximately 2/3rd the way through the novel I've been working on, and I hope to have it done by the end of the year.
