I just saw this link to some amazing sand castles.

I have to say, 'hax!' Which is to say, how in the world did they do that amount of work before, well, the ephemeral nature of the art would overcome it?

By compacting the sand a lot more than kids do, by using a variety of tools and careful planning, and by being really, really good at it };>. I've read a bit about the subject. Very nifty indeed! =^.^=

My favourites: The sea serpent eating the castle-builder, and the chariot-in-waves one.

The castles-on-a-wall one _had_ to have been a collaborative project. That, or done over a few days. Impressive =o.o=.

I kind of liked the "arms race" just for humor value. :) But some of the others were certainly more impressive.

And glue. You can get really impressive shapes by mixing a little glue into the water you use with the sand.

My local mall used to do sand sculptures every year, indoors. They really had some amazing stuff.
