I haven't replaced these glasses in about six years, and they were getting pretty scratched up... It was time to get some new ones! I'm not too sure about the 'thin' look, but s'what I've got now.

Hey, as long as you can see well with them, that's the main thing. But they do look good.

Thanks!

It just seemed a little weird to me how everything offered was thin-style - I'm like, "Didn't there use to be a choice?" The difference this time was whether the frame wrapped around top and bottom of the lenses, or only on the top, and either brown or black frames.

Yeah, the small rectangular lenses have been almost the only style available for the last five or six years. O.o It's weird! They look good on you, though. :)

The "eyewear consultant" was a very cute Asian girl. She thought it looked good, so who was I to argue? ^_^

Thinner glasses wayyyyyyyyy better than the old ones. Big round lenses are for Arthur the aardvark, Meg Griffin, and Brainy Smurf.

Lynx v1.1! ^_^

I should probably start using some kind of skin conditioner too, I suspect. What should I be looking for?

Something that doesn't make you break out, and that's going to be very specific to you! But I'd suggest going to one of those natural grocery stores I'm sure you've got a ton of out west and looking for something with an ingredient list that doesn't look too weird. :)

Apparently they have some kind of anti-glare, photosensitive coating that lets them darken automatically in the sunlight as well! Shiny. ^_^

I really like the new ones! They look so nice! Better than the old shape, I think. :)

I had no idea I was so tragically unfashionable all these years. T_T

6 years ago when you got the old ones, they WERE in fashion! So no, you weren't 'unfashionable' for many years. Maybe just one or two. But you still always looked good. :)

Those look a lot like my latest pair. and yes, thinner smaller glasses are utterly the trend nowadays. What I had in the late 80's and 90's look huge now in comparison. :)

It's kind of distracting how much "uncorrected" field of vision there is now, above and below the lenses! :O But not much that can be done with that.

From: [identity profile] chefmongoose.livejournal.com
You get really used to it.

Right now I wear my new-thin ones on my days off from work, and my slightly bigger ones on workdays. The same prescription. The older ones also have sunglasses which attach meagnetically, so they're the trip-glasses. :)

Date: 2010-11-14 04:33 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tuftears.livejournal.com
These are apparently photosensitive: they'll darken automagically in bright light!

Jared is far too pleased with the results of his laser eye-correction surgery to go back to glasses, EVAR. So I'm safe! :D

Heehee, all righty! I dunno if eye correction surgery is in my future... Though I'm slated to go in for an eye dilation next week to see how my retinas are doing.

From: [identity profile] kagetsume.livejournal.com
I hate both of you. And yes, narrow lenses means less field of view correction. Of course getting LASIK done would eliminate that concern *nudge*.

The lack of peripheral vision was one my my motivating factors to have it done myself.

From: [identity profile] tuftears.livejournal.com
I guess I could ask about it next time! But I'm generally very cautious of anything involving the eyes.

Date: 2010-11-15 03:08 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] starmind.livejournal.com
If you have any direct questions, you could ask me. I've undergone the surgery twice now. ;)

Date: 2010-11-15 03:41 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] starmind.livejournal.com
Yep. The first time was about 10 years ago now. I got both eyes done. My vision without glasses was so bad it wasn't really measurable by today's standards.

The second time I got my left eye done about a month ago to correct damage that I had done to it about 8 years ago which gradually worsened over time. I decided finally that I was able to afford to get my eye fixed, and I was.

Date: 2010-11-15 04:25 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tuftears.livejournal.com
Huh, what kind of damage did you do to it?

Date: 2010-11-15 11:12 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] starmind.livejournal.com
I was stocking shelves one night, and dropped a bunch of laundry soap from a damaged box into it. ;)

Ow! *sympathetic wince*

Glad to hear it was re-correctable then instead of permanent damage!

Thanks! I don't know why but they came out much clearer in the picture than the old set. Could be a reflection of how scratched up the old ones are!

Replaced my glasses last winter, and the optometrist also said, 'no no no, you want rectangles now'. I liked my aviator style (*cough Max Sterling cough*) glasses, but they insisted the rectangles were better for my face shape, which hasn't changed much. Lana'kat also got hit with rectangles when she updated hers.

Silly trends! No doubt it's the fault of cheapskate lens makers, wanting to save on glass. >_>
