Well, not the steampunk vest - I got that one a while ago, but I need to find the right occasion to put it on, and I'm concerned about using it for day-to-day stuff. So I got theOrvis 'Zambezi Twill Travel Vest'.

Lynx in a travel vest!

Though I wear a medium to large shirt size normally, the vests are cut very 'generously' - this is the small vest, and seems to fit well.

The pockets are big enough for my sketchbook - 5x7" or so - and there are a bunch more pockets for things like extra ponytail ties and a small packet of napkins. It'll be lighter weight and cooler than carrying my windbreaker jacket around.

I do vaguely ponder whether I can sew a lynx patch onto the front pocket... I'm not much good with a needle and thread though!

If you take a look at a typical photographer's vest, it's pretty ugly and blatantly plastic! I think this seems reasonably tasteful.

Very tasteful, I'd say!

Thanks. ^_^ I'll add a patch this weekend at some point, I think. I could wish that it came in black but khaki was all they had.

I wonder how well it would take dye... There's always Sharpie markers! (Use in a well-ventillated space...)

Well, it's pretty much a bush jacket minus the sleeves, yes. };)

Nice vest!

The secret to sewing on patches is to find a thread that matches the border, then stitch through the border where it meets the rest of the patch- no whipstitching over the edge. Looks very nice that way.

Oh, and put the patch in the pocket to go through the wash at least once before sewing it on. Some patches shrink the first time.

Oh hey, what about fabric glue? Some sort of hot glue, which purports to be machine washable. Have you had any experience with those?

I should give the vest and the patch a wash, to remove machine-manufacture gunk and address potential shrinkage issue, sure. };)

I'd go with needle and thread, to be honest. You can use "fusible webbing" to glue things together, but even then it's usually sewn as well. I've heard horror stories about garment-parts assembled with hot glue.

If you decide to pick these up yourself (rather than asking a friend who sews to do it), a thimble is also worth getting. Pushing a needle through a thick patch is hard on the fingers otherwise };>.

I guess I should see about a sewing kit then!

Yes. The bad part about fabric glue is that the patch tends to slowly peel back off, especially with hard wear (such as running around a convention)
