I have quite a few comic books. I was wondering how to store them... You can't really put them in a bookcase because unless they're graphic novels, there's no binding side to speak of, it would just be a row of staples facing the reader. Standard comic boxes would work but you can't stack them...

Or can you?

Browsing around, I came across some interesting references to comic book file drawers, and decided to try putting them together.

Comic collection drawers!

Here's the first row of these. Ultimately there'll be four or five rows. I got these from CollectionDrawer.com.

Interesting stuff, I had to admire how cleverly the cardboard is cut so you can assemble these from just a few sheets of cardboard each, but they fit together pretty securely, and importantly, will bear weight. At least I hope they will. -_- That many comics will weigh a lot.

Keep in mind that cardboard is really acidic and will destroy the comics unless they're all bagged...

That is a good point I hadn't thought of! That'll be a fair bit of work. -_-

Have a comic bagging party in your new house! :D Put a movie on, each guest gets a stack of comics and bags, and serve some pizza or something. Of course, people will probably start reading the comics...

I'd worry more about handling comics with greasy fingers. Food/snacks and archival filing are not a good combination...

Maybe! I might do something like that with the books for the library, when the bookcases come in. -_-

The comics will be in the closet of my office, which is why you can see a track on the floor-- that is where the doors were removed since they were blocking access to the comics. So I can sort and bag comics during downtime in whatever I'm doing online!

There's always the "hanging files" option. I've seen quite a few stackable systems intended for that sort of thing. Put N issues per file folder, and you're set.

(I'm assuming these are bagged; _everything_ seems to damage un-bagged comics, with humidity being my main worry in your climate.)

Fair point. I probably need to buy a bunch of comic bags for the ones I significantly care about. -_-

I store mine in plastic tubs

Well, that works if you have them on heavy-duty shelves, but harder to flip through them!

Do you flip through them all that frequently? If you're going for long-term storage, durability might trump access. But, hey, whatever works best for you! (I prefer plastic bins for storage, especially since I live in Florida. When I've kept things in cardboard boxes in the attic or garage - lacking a basement for such things - bugs have EATEN THROUGH the cardboard and done nasty stuff to my stored terrain pieces.)

That would totally be a D: moment.

And no, that is one reason behind wanting a better comic organization system... Comics being all mixed up or stored tightly and in a hard to reach spot is a big turnoff.

This is an indoor closet, so a significant presence of bugs would be a Very Bad Thing in general for the house.

Ooh. I may have to invest, my current 10 longboxes are semi-messy. :)
