Recommend me a rug!

Presently there's this big swathe of space between the sofa and the TV. I'm thinking of a rug to fill the space in. What do you think?

For the library, I'm thinking of this one. kagetsume suggests that red and gold carpets, what I would have picked to start with, would make both rooms too red.

What, the black and gold "Safari Skin" rug would?

I do have a distinct worry against using green because it might look a bit... garish.

Well, the red and gold in that room would definitely be a lot of red in one space. Black and gold would probably be fine.

You'd want to go for a fairly deep green, not a light one if you went that route. You're right that anything too bright would be very noticeable.

True, a really good dark green with sufficiently neat aesthetics could work! The aesthetics are the hard part to nail.
